MUAY THAI AT HANGAR 4
With techniques including kicks, punches and the use of knees and elbows, MuayThai is ‘the science of 8 limbs’.
Originally from Thailand, MuayThai is an extremely effective martial art and distinguishes itself from Western kickboxing and other stand-up martial arts by 3 things: knees, elbows and grappling, and is known for its rigorous conditioning.
Classes begin with a warm-up which includes skipping, shadow boxing and other bodyweight exercises. Pad work and drilling with a partner follow in order to develop power, timing and speed. Basic offensive and defensive techniques are then drilled using punches, kicks, knees and elbows. Classes end with some cardio work, pad drills and a cool-down. Sparring is reserved for the more advanced levels under a supervised instructor.
For girls and guys looking for a great workout, an hour’s class can burn upwards of 750 calories.
Attire: Thai shorts, t-shirt, hand wraps, gloves. If sparring is involved additional equipment such as a mouthguard, shin pads and headgear are recommended. Equipment is available for loan for beginners.
